Study Smart with Mind Mapping techniques
Does that textbook put you to sleep?
I mean after reading pages and pages of text, how much information from that chapter actually stays in you head?
Can you remember and apply the facts, or do you simply memorize the words and regurgitate them during the exam?
Do you actually understand what you are reading?
I read some books on mind mapping and found this an excellent way to learn. To understand the concepts presented to you by the writer of a book. To learn and apply what you have read.
What you need for note taking through mind mapping
- You needs lots of paper or a book without lines. Something you can draw pictures in.
- You need a selection of color pencils for drawing with.

Mind Mapping is about learning through images and the relationship between these images. You can also use this technique for planning or as a brainstorming tool, which I find invaluable in my current work.
- First, read the chapter or section you are studying.
- Now what is the core idea about this section?
Draw a colorful picture to represent it right in the center of the page or paper. You may write a few words below the image for clarification. - What are the details presented around this idea?
- For each of these details, draw a colorful picture and a few words to represent that detail and an arrow from the center image pointing to each detail. On the arrow, write a few words on how this details is related to that main idea.
- Continue until you have expressed that entire section in picture form
