It depends on how you use them. Have you seen women with bad acne that gets even worse as she applies makeup>
Those compact powders supposedly for oily skin can be the worst culprits.
I know, these foundation powder compacts are usually oil-free which by right should be good for oily, acne-prone skin. The problem is the way one tends to use these compacts. You know, take it out, pat the puff on oily face. Put the puff back in the compact on top of the unused powder.
Acne is caused by bacteria which breeds in the oil-clogged pores. Imagine a clean puff used to apply powder onto your face. It picks up acne bacteria from your skin. Then you pat it back onto the compact to picking up more powder. You introduce oil and bacteria back to the unused powder in the compact. When you are done, you put the now contaminated puff back onto the unused powder, introducing yet more oil and powder to the compact.
The next time you use the compact, you pick up bacteria laden powder mixed with oil from the compact onto your face. The cycle goes on as the bacteria is happily transfered from face to compact, to breed some more, back to face and so on.
Then you wonder why that oil-free powder foundation seems to make your break outs worse.
Be vigilant when you use a powder foundation. After using the puff, keep it in a separate bag to wash and dry completely when you have got the time. Keep spare puffs you can use in between washes.
Yes, even with acne, you can use good oil-free powder foundataions like any of these clinique powder compacts.
Personally, I prefer using any of the clinique powder loose powders with a brush. I"d wash and dry my hands and pour a little powder into the palm of a clean hand. Then I"d dip the powder brush and pick up that powder to apply on my just washed and moisturized face. That way, I could use some form of foundation without getting a breakout.

If you must use a liquid foundation for the coverage, go for clinique makeup that is oil-free. My mom had acne, until she discovered the clinique and she used a clinique 3-step foundation without any problems since then. When I had acne, it cleared when she got me to use clinique as well. So for acne cases, I"d recommend Clinique.

How To Use
