When you have oily skin, do you need a moisturizer?
I've had oily skin all my life. I find that the most important skin care product for oily skin is the cleanser. It has to be effective enough to get rid of the dirt and excess oil, yet it must not be too harsh that it dries the skin, forcing your skin to produce more oil to compensate for it.

I have had a doctor advise me that soap and water is sufficient to keep your skin clean. Yet another doctor advises cleansing with an antibacterial cleanser to prevent acne. With age, lines appear.

My aunt who used the antibacterial cleanser my doctor recommended advised me against using it. Her lines are more prominent that the wrinkles on my other aunts. She told me it was because in her youth, she was like me. She had really oily skin. She used that particularly cleanser which kept her skin clear from acne, but was really strong and in the long run, led to her skin getting more lines than necessary.

Another lesson learnt here was that even oily skin needs a good moisturizer and proper care to reduce the future wrinkles. What you do when you are young affects your skin when you are older, and then, it would be too late. (ok, with botox and plastic surgery, you can erase those lines when you get older but then again, prevention is better than cure.)

I was also advised by a friend to start using anti-wrinkle products when I was around 20. I went through a period where I did a wrinkle prevention massage I learnt at a course, every day on my skin, with my chosen anti-wrinkle cream and ended up with a nasty acne outbreak that took months to cure.

The lesson learnt here is that if you have oily skin, you have to stick to moisturizers meant for oily skin.
